English for Specific Purposes
Why people decide to study English
We can offer a variety of Business English lessons for students of all levels.
Many companies now require their employees to take the TOEIC test regularly, and TOEIC scores are often used to calculate salary scales and bonuses. Please see our TOEIC section for more information on the kind of test-preparation courses we offer.
Besides TOEIC, we can provide lessons on other functions of Business English such as writing letters and e-mails, making international telephone calls, and traveling to other countries on business trips. If you are preparing for a business trip to another country, we recommend our private (man-to-man) lessons so that we can focus on exactly what kind of English you are going to need. Group lessons are also available for Business English.
Students wishing to study Travel English, for business or pleasure, can also choose between group and private lessons. We can offer courses for High School students and adults that present the English required for passing through airports, checking into hotels, sightseeing, taking part in a Homestay program, and buying gifts and souvenirs.
Travel English lessons can be short, intensive courses, in which case we recommend private “man-to-man” lessons, or you can study over a longer period in one of our weekly group lessons. Our group lessons take place several times a week, so if you have to miss your regular lesson, you are welcome to attend a different one instead.
College and University students planning to study abroad usually need to take an ESL (English as a Foreign Language) test such as TOEFL or IELTS. At Myer we have a wide range of textbooks and CDs to help you prepare for these tests. In private “man-to-man” lessons you can study the four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking at a pace that suits you. In addition to test skills and strategies, we have a selection of past tests and training tests that will help you understand the format of the tests and memorize the instructions. If you have taken the TOEFL or IELTS tests before, we can use your report card to plan lessons that target the skills you most need to improve. You’re also welcome to bring your University Application Forms and Personal Statements to your lessons, we will be happy to proof-read them and advise you in any way we can.
