Classes

Types of classes and curriculum

Myer Japan offers its students four types of English lessons. These English lessons are home lessons, business lessons, cafe lessons and/or Skype English lessons. For lessons that require the teacher to travel, Myer pays up to 1,000 yen per lesson to the teacher as a travel expense. You may learn more about these types of English lessons below.

Myer Japan has a basic set curriculum of books in which we will loan to our English teachers if they so desire for their student lessons. We know however that English lessons tend to deviate greatly from the designated path. Myer Japan has no problem with this. After all, what keeps the students and teachers happiest makes for the best lessons.

Home English lessons

Home lessons offer the chance to study English with a teacher in the comfortable surroundings of the students house. The home environment allows for relaxed learning with the teacher. Home lessons make it easy for the student to learn and remember English without even feeling like they are studying. This fact alone makes home lessons a very sought after choice with Myer’s students.

Home English lessons are 50 minutes per class once per week unless the students prefers otherwise.

Business English lessons

As the world becomes more internationally reliant, Japanese businesses are having their employees study English to better prepare them for the future of their business. Business English lessons have been designed to teach English conversation and/or TOEFL to the Japanese student in order to ease them with their potential future conversations with their English speaking counterparts.

Business English lessons are 50 minutes per class once per week unless the students prefers otherwise.

Cafe English lessons

Cafe English lessons, much like home English lessons are meant to allow the Japanese student to learn and study English in a relaxed environment. More than 90% of cafe lessons are free English conversation classes. The teacher and the student meet at a cafe that is convenient for both of them in order to have an English class.

Cafe English lessons are 50 minutes per class once per week unless the students prefers otherwise.

Telephone English lessons

Telephone English lessons are presently in the beta stage of testing for Myer Japan. These types of English classes are different from the other types of English lessons mentioned above. Our teachers are required to have a computer and not required to have a valid visa in order to teach them. Phone English lessons are designed for intermediate to advanced students who are studying English. These English lessons are free English conversation between the English teacher and the student.

Telephone English teachers are required to have their own computer, a headset or USB phone and Skype (the peer to peer voice service program). Skype is a free service and a quick download. Myer Japan can help you get it installed if you have any problems doing so yourself.
